This is something we know you’re going to like. Here at the Guru – we’ve had a slight change to policy. Whenever you come to us for a fantastic Indian meal – bring your own bottle of wine. We’ll be delighted to open it and won’t even charge you for the pleasure. Further more – we’ll give you all glasses to drink it from – or if you’d prefer and ask nicely – we’ll give you a straw!
If you don’t have the confidence to choose your own – or are struggling with the licensing laws and the hours you can actually buy wine – we still have a great range available to buy on the day.

This is one day of the year where the Guru is happy to concede that mother’s advice is better than his.  Mother’s Day is a great opportunity to say thank you to mum for many years of everything – and what better way to cement that thank you than to treat her to fantastic Indian banquet complete with naan breads the size of her heart (we mean massive!!).
We’re open on Mother’s Day – so whether you want to book a table and bring her here and treat her to a meal out – or call us on 0131 221 9779 to order a take away – get your plans sorted.  Mum shouldn’t have to cook today – so get things planned and let us be part of it.

For those of you who can’t resist the taste of our fantastic halal chicken curried to perfection – here are two tasty dishes that we can’t help but recommend. Numbers 51 and 52 on the menu – order them when you eat with us – or enjoy them at home!
Balti Chicken Saag Mirch

This is our new and exciting version of the classic Indian combination of chicken and fresh spinach. Ours is slightly hotter than traditional dishes with the warmth of fresh coriander and freshy roasted spices adding that little something extra to the dish. There’s no denying this dish has some heat – but when the flavours are as good as these – it only adds to the experience.
Balti Green Herb Chicken

Another new dish – and another one to whet the appetite. This dish is a celebration of fresh and tasty. Again – starting with the most tender chicken, we add some fresh tomatoes and some crunchy green pepper. The flavour is then turned up to maximum with lovely fresh spring onions, spicy coriander leave and some lively fresh ginger to finish. We think this is the perfect balance of taste and texture.

We want to celebrate our Guru Special Chutney – so here’s a brief history of classic Indian pickles and chutneys.
Pickles and chutneys are a great means of ensuring fruit and veg that would otherwise go mouldy have a longer life. Whilst western pickles are often created using vinegar – Indian pickles generally use oil and a mixture of spices and salt to create the same effect. Lime pickle is generally made from quartered limes that are slightly sun dried to intensify their flavours. These are then added to some cooked spices to give a combination of sour and hot flavours – all maintaining that distinct texture.
Our new special pickle is fresh and hot to taste. A superb mix of chilli, coriander, garlic, ginger and lemon. We think it’s great with pakoras – but to be honest it is fantastic with any starter or meal. Not only that – but it is an absolute steal at only £1.50 a portion!

Food recommendations can be difficult – we think all our dishes are hard to beat – but these are three the dishes our customers – you the paying public – enjoy and order most.
Chicken Tikka Masala

Often called Britain’s favourite curry dish – and allegedly with origins from the early 1500s when a descendant of Genghis Khan decided he was fed up choking on chicken bones and had his chefs remove them before cooking. Our version features chicken cooked in the tandoor on skewers – and then enveloped in a lovely curry sauce.
North Indian Chilli Garlic Chicken

There is no denying that this is a hot and spicy dish – and maybe not one for the beginner – but if you like your food full of flavour – this is the curry for you. The clue to the ingredients is in the name – and the addition of lovely fresh coriander ensures this will warm you during this cold weather.
Balti Kashmiri Chicken Murgh Makhani

This is a lovely mild dish. The pieces of chicken are barbecued in the tandoor and then enveloped in a sauce of banana, lychee pineapple and almonds. A gentle dish – creamy and satisfying.
Guru Special Naan

If we can make one recommendation though – accompany any of these with our Guru Special Naan. One of our classic oversized naan breads smeared with lovely fresh buttery garlic and coriander.
